The Nedbank Cup, the premier knockout soccer competition in South Africa, also known as South Africa's FA Cup, kicked off in 2008 and the current sponsorship contract runs until 2017.
Nedbank's role as a sponsor is firstly to provide a platform for teams and clubs from the South African Football Association (SAFA) ranks to compete with their peers from the National First Division and Premier League and secondly to provide an opportunity for soccer fans of all ages to come together and share in their passion. This is the only cup competition in the country that addresses football development through the inclusion of professional and amateur teams.
Through the Nedbank Soccer Development Programme and in partnership with The Sports Trust, R1 million has been donated towards the building of a multipurpose sports court for a deserving school. An additional 100 schools across the country also receive soccer kits annually as part of Nedbank's soccer development initiatives.

Through the team search, which was launched in 2013, Nedbank invites amateur soccer players from all walks of life to try out for the Nedbank Ke Yona Team. There were over 48 000 entries in the inaugural edition of the Nedbank Ke Yona Team search. The final 23-man squad gave a stellar performance and narrowly lost on penalties against the 2013 Nedbank Cup Champions, Kaizer Chiefs.
Following the initial success the Nedbank Ke Yona Team search has been extended until 2017 to coincide with the duration of the sponsorship of the Nedbank Cup.
Players selected for the Nedbank Ke Yona Team will get the chance to play against the reigning Nedbank Cup holders and could potentially be signed by professional clubs, making their goals happen.
